Seasonal Magic: From Hot Summers to Cozy Fall in Eastern NC

Welcome to crissyoshow.com, where Crissy O’s Clucky Chronicles celebrates the rhythms of life in Eastern North Carolina! As we wave goodbye to the steamy days of summer 2025, the air is turning crisp, and my heart swells with the beauty of this seasonal shift. From scorching July heat to the cooler breezes of August, this corner of the world is painting a picture of change—and it’s a joy to share it with you. Let’s waddle through the warmth, harvests, and pumpkin prep together!

Farewell to Summer’s Heat

Summer in Eastern NC has been a sweaty adventure! With temperatures soaring into the 90s, my ducks—Tracee, Vickie, JaneLily, Monique, Mollie May, and Sherrie Dee—have been splashing in their kiddie pool, turning rain into a party. The chickens and quails have sought shade under the oaks, their clucks a little slower in the humidity. But now, as August tips toward September, those 80-degree days feel like a gentle hug compared to July’s blaze. Mornings bring a cool kiss, and the evenings invite us to linger outside with a cup of sweet tea. It’s like nature’s giving us a breather, and I can’t help but smile watching my flock perk up with the change.

Harvest Time: A Farmer’s Triumph

This shift signals harvest season for local farmers, and it’s a sight to behold! Fields around Eastern NC are bursting with summer’s last hurrah—tomatoes, okra, and sweet corn are ripe for the picking. My neighbor down the road just hauled in a wagon of watermelons, their juicy red hearts a reward for months of toil. It’s heartwarming to see families working together, kids trailing behind with baskets, laughing as they dodge bees. Farmers markets, like the one in Greenville, are buzzing with these treasures, their stalls overflowing with colors. But summer gardens are winding down—zucchini vines are fading, and the focus turns to fall. It’s a bittersweet goodbye, softened by the promise of what’s next.

Welcoming Fall with Pumpkins

As the cooler temperatures settle in, excitement builds for fall pumpkins! Local farmers are prepping fields, turning soil for those orange beauties that’ll dot the landscape by October. I can almost smell the pumpkin spice already! My flock loves this transition too—ducks waddle through crisp leaves, and chickens peck at fallen seeds, their energy renewed. I’m planning a trip to the Kinston market to snag some early pumpkins, maybe carve a goofy face with my niece. It’s a cozy ritual that brings us closer, and I love imagining my ducks inspecting the leftovers. Farmers are busy clearing summer plots, planting pumpkin seeds, and dreaming of hayrides—fall’s magic is on its way!

A Heartwarming Shift

This seasonal dance reminds me of life’s cycles—hard work yielding to rest, heat giving way to comfort. The cooler air invites bonfires and storytelling, while harvests feed our souls as much as our tables. For anyone new to this lifestyle, dip your toes in—visit a farmers market, buy a pumpkin, or let your birds enjoy the yard. It’s simple joys like these that make homesteading special. My flock’s chatter as they explore the yard fills me with gratitude, and I hope it inspires you too.
