My Crissy O's Clucky Ducky Dynasty!

Hey, Clucky Crew!

Crissy O here, and today I'm diving headfirst into the wacky world of my duck family! I've got a motley crew of feathered friends, each with their own unique personality and quirks. Let's meet the girls!

Jane Lily: The Crested Diva

First up, we have Jane Lily, my resident diva. She's a Crested Duck, which means she has a little tuft of feathers on her head, making her look like she's always ready for a night out on the town. Jane Lily is all about drama and flair. She's the queen of the duckyard, and she lets everyone know it with her loud quacks and extravagant waddles.

Molly May: The Rouen Boss

Next up is Molly May, my Rouen Duck. Now, Rouens are known for their beautiful plumage, and Molly May is no exception. She's got a sleek, brown speckled head and a chestnut body, and she's as proud as a peacock. Molly May is the boss lady of the group. She's always keeping the other ducks in line, and she's not afraid to assert her dominance with a well-placed quack followed by a bill pinch!

Sherrie Dee and Monique: The Indian Runner Twins

Then there's Sherrie Dee and Monique, my pair of Indian Runner Ducks. These girls are the sprinters of the duck world. They're always on the move, running around the yard like they're late for an important meeting. Sherrie Dee and Monique are the comedians of the group. They're always quacking up at each other's antics, and they love to play pranks on the other ducks. Sherrie Dee is our resident opera star!

Tracee and Vickie: The Peking Cross Mix Babies

And last but not least, we have Tracee and Vickie, my newest additions to the duck family. They're a Peking cross mix, which means they're a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Tracee and Vickie are still babies, but they're already full of personality. They're curious, playful, and always up for a cuddle well, except for Vickie she's only into currently screaming and running.

A Day in the Life of a Duck Mom

Taking care of my duck family is a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. Every other day, I clean out their pool to keep the water fresh and clean. I also collect their unfertilized eggs. Yes, you read that right. My ducks lay eggs, but since they don't have a drake, the eggs are infertile. I use them for baking and cooking, and they make delicious omelets and scrambled eggs. The girls don't really care for the wild wood duck drakes that try to peek in at them when their in the pool so the single duckie life is for them until they find the perfect match I guess.

Tips for Keeping Ducks

If you're thinking about getting ducks, here are a few tips:

  • Do your research: There are many different breeds of ducks, each with their own unique personalities and care requirements.
  • Provide plenty of space: Ducks need plenty of room to roam and explore.
  • Make sure they have access to water: Ducks love to swim and bathe, so provide them with a pool or pond.
  • Clean their pool regularly: Keeping the water clean is essential for their health.
  • Collect their eggs daily: If you want to eat duck eggs, collect them daily.

A Ducktastic Conclusion

My duck family brings me so much joy. They're silly, they're lovable, and they're always up for a good time. If you're looking for a fun and rewarding pet, I highly recommend getting ducks! You'll find them on my youtube channel Crissy O's Clucky Chronicles and blog posts as well as the monthly newsletter too!

Until next time, keep clucking, quacking and snacking!

Crissy O.
